Between ist eine Reihe, die ausgehend von klangbasierten Praktiken die Ausstellungsräume des Kunstvereins temporär in eine Bühne für internationale Musiker*innen, Performer*innen und Künstler*innen verwandelt. Die dritte Ausgabe wird von der Komponistin und Künstlerin Klein konzipiert. Mit ihren Performances, Filmen, Videospielen und Webseiten erschafft Klein eine sensorische Welt, die Bezugspunkte aus Popkultur und Massenmedien mit persönlichen Assoziationen verbindet und dabei oft die Grenzen zwischen Autobiografie und Fantasie verschwimmen lässt. Unter dem Titel the roads were active erstreckt sich diese Ausgabe von Between über eine Woche und umfasst performative Elemente sowie statische Momente, die durch Skulptur, Text und Sound geleitet werden.
Die Eröffnungsperformance von Klein am Samstag, den 30. April um 21 Uhr ist ein neues Stück, das zum Teil Szenen aus ihrem Spielfilm Care (2021) nachstellt. Es kombiniert Elemente von choreografierter Bewegung, Klang, Improvisation und Schauspiel, um ein Porträt der sozialen Fürsorge zu erschaffen.
Die Abschlussperformance von Jah Umbrella findet am Freitag, 6. Mai um 21 Uhr statt. Jah Umbrella ist der Künstlername von Curtly Thomas. Er betrachtet Sound als einen Ort der vielschichtigen Erzählung und verwendet klangwissenschaftliche Techniken, die aus Dub und Noise entlehnt sind, um in seinen Live-Settings zu verstören, aufzudecken und zu vermitteln.

Between is a series departing from music-based practices that temporarily rededicates the Kunstverein’s exhibition spaces into a stage for musicians, performers, and artists. Its third iteration is conceived by composer and artist Klein. Often blurring the lines between autobiographical and fantasy, Klein through her performances, films, video games, and websites creates a sensory world that melds reference points from pop culture and news media with personal associations. Unfolding over a week, this edition of Between entitled the roads were active is partly scripted, partly guided through sculpture, text, and sound.
The opening performance by Klein on Saturday, April 30 at 9 pm, is a new play, in part recreating scenes from her 2021 feature length film Care. It combines elements of choreographed movement, sculpture, sound, improvisation, and drama as a tool to unveil a portrait of social care.
The closing performance by Jah Umbrella will happen on Friday, May 6 at 9 pm. Jah Umbrella is the shifting monikers of artist Curtly Thomas. Looking at sound as a site of deep-narrative, he uses sonic-scientific techniques borrowed from dub and noise to disrupt, unearth, and communicate in live music settings.
