Screening and talk with Stephan Dillemuth
Stephan Dillemuth will talk through and contextualize rarely-seen video documentation of several shows organized at Friesenwall 120, an artist-run space he co-ran with Merlin Carpenter, Josef Strau, and Nils Norman in Cologne in the early Nineties. The screening includes footage of ‘Internationale Situationniste’ and 'Wahrheit ist Arbeit – wie es wirklich war’ from 1992 – the latter of which was an unofficial restaging of 'Wahrheit ist Arbeit', originally a three-person exhibition by Werner Büttner, Martin Kippenberger and Albert Oehlen at Museum Folkwang from 1984. Before the show at Friesenwall 120, former Kunstverein München director Helmut Draxler attempted to remount 'Wahrheit ist Arbeit’ in 1992, which ultimately resulted in a different show by the same three artists retitled 'Mahlen ist Wahlen'.
Organised by Kunstverein München’s curator Saim Demircan as part of the teaching block ‘Countercultural Curating’ – a series of lectures designed for students from the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München, and related public events throughout May, June and July together with artists Stephan Dillemuth, Dan Mitchell, John Russell, and Head Gallery.
