The exhibition Die verletzte Diva. Hysterie, Körper, Technik in der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts portrays a key issue in 20th-century art that has so far received little attention as an independent line of development: hysteria as a symptom and as an experimental formula in artistic engagement with a rapidly changing world. The four exhibition venues - the Kunstbau Lenbachhaus, the Kunstverein, the Rotunde of the Siemens Kulturprogramm in Munich and the Galerie im Taxispalais in Innsbruck - present the theme with different historical emphases.
At the Kunstverein München, you can see pieces by artists who bridge the gap between the problems of the early seventies and today. Their artistic languages show the polarity of excess and control. Between body-related image productions in performance and video art, photography and the analysis of conventions in the media and social spheres, new fields of action open up for art.
