Mehmet kam aus Anatolien (Mehmet Came From Anatolia)
September 24 - October 30,1976
The so-called “Advisory Board for Foreigners” of the city of Munich organized the “day of the foreigner” in 1976, in the context of which the exhibition Mehmet kam aus Anatolien (Mehmet Came From Anatolia) opened. In a press release, the council announced the project as follows: “The aim is, among other things, to honor foreign citizens and colleagues and to give them the opportunity to present themselves and their culture, in order to contribute to an understanding between Germans and foreigners. [...] The demand for equal rights should be the focus of the theme of the day.” In addition to the exhibition, the program included a chil- dren’s festival, a panel discussion on “unemployment and adolescent foreigners,” a football tournament, con- certs, and a “big street festival in the closed Galerie- straße with roast mutton—theater—music—folklore— dance—specialties.”
