Die Einzelausstellung Every word was once an animal von Yalda Afsah wird um eine Woche bis zum 10. April 2022 verlängert.
Am Mittwoch, den 16. März um 19 Uhr findet im Rahmen der Ausstellung der Vortrag Tauben füttern als ästhetischer und widerständiger Akt von Cord Riechelmann im Kunstverein statt. Der Biologe und Philosoph wird eine Herleitung und Herausarbeitung der Herrschaft des Menschen über sich selbst und über die Natur am Beispiel der Taube vornehmen. Ausgehend von Fahim Amirs Diktum „Wer Tauben füttert, füttert Widerstand“ geht der Vortrag auf die Situation der Tauben in den Städten, der Kunst und der Wissenschaft ein.
Am Samstag, den 2. April um 18 Uhr findet die Vorstellung der Publikation im Kunstverein statt, die anlässlich der Ausstellung erscheint. Im Rahmen dessen gibt es ein Gespräch zwischen der Künstlerin, Maurin Dietrich und Gina Merz. Neben umfassendem Bildmaterial versammelt die von HIT gestaltete Publikation Texte von Fahim Amir, Maurin Dietrich, Cathrin Mayer sowie Gina Merz und erscheint im DISTANZ Verlag. The solo exhibition Every word was once an animal by Yalda Afsah is extended by a week through April 10, 2022.
In conjunction with the exhibition, the lecture Feeding pigeons as an aesthetic and resistant act by Cord Riechelmann will take place on Wednesday, March 16 at 7pm. The biologist and philosopher will elaborate on human’s dominion over themselves and over nature, using the example of the pigeon. Based on Fahim Amir’s dictum “Whoever feeds pigeons, feeds resistance,” the lecture will focus on the situation of pigeons in cities, art, and science. The event will be held in German.
On Saturday, April 2 at 6 pm, the Kunstverein hosts the presentation of the publication that is released on the occasion of the exhibition. In this context, a conversation between the artist, Maurin Dietrich, and Gina Merz will take place. In addition to comprehensive visual material, the publication designed by HIT brings together texts by Fahim Amir, Maurin Dietrich, Cathrin Mayer, and Gina Merz and is published by DISTANZ Verlag. On and Off the Grid ist ein Präsentations- und Veranstaltungsprogramm, das sich verschiedenen Formen des Publizierens widmet und im Schaufenster am Hofgarten verortet ist. Die Reihe begreift „Publizieren“ im erweiterten Sinne jenseits und zwischen konventionellen Medien und versteht sich als Format für die Vorstellung und Verhandlung von (nicht-) publiziertem Material sowie von Prozessen der Veröffentlichung. Das Programm eröffnete mit dem Rotterdamer Publikationsprojekt Unbidden Tongues, das seit seinen Anfängen 2020 bereits existierende, jedoch relativ wenig zirkulierte Texte von Kulturschaffenden veröffentlicht, die sich mit Fragen von Verhaltensnormen und öffentlichem bzw. bürokratischem Leben beschäftigen. Die ersten fünf Publikationen waren jeweils einer Person gewidmet: Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, Karen Brodine, Adrian Piper, Janet McCalman und Theresa Hak Kyung Cha.
Am Samstag, den 26. März von 16–18 Uhr findet die Veranstaltung Unbidden Tongues #6: Cutting Out Reading the New York Times statt. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine neu konzipierte Hörfassung von Lorraine O’Gradys Collagenserie Cutting Out the New York Times (1977). Das ursprüngliche Werk besteht aus 26 ausgeschnittenen bzw. „gefundenen“ Zeitungsgedichten, die die Künstlerin an aufeinanderfolgenden Sonntagen von Juni bis November 1977 anfertigte. Das Hörstück, in dem die Gedichte erstmals rezitiert werden, wird in Form einer öffentlichen Ankündigung während der Veranstaltung im Kunstverein zu hören sein. Dabei wird auf den ursprünglichen Kontext der Zeitung als Ort der öffentlichen Aufzeichnung zurückgegriffen, um das geschriebene Wort in sein mündliches Gegenstück zu übersetzen.
Unbidden Tongues wird von Isabelle Sully herausgegeben und ab dieser Ausgabe vom Kunstverein München publiziert. In dem Zusammenhang erscheint eine neuaufgelegte Sonderausgabe des Posters zur Einzelausstellung von Adrian Piper im Kunstverein von 1992, die vor Ort erworben werden kann.

On and Off the Grid is a yearly program of presentations and events dedicated to various form(at)s of publishing and located in the window display at the Hofgarten. The series conceives of “publishing” in a broader sense beyond and between conventional types of media, and attempts to provide a platform for the introduction, examination, and (re)negotiation of the materials and processes involved in publishing. The format was inaugurated with Unbidden Tongues, which since its beginnings in 2020, has published previously produced yet relatively uncirculated work by cultural practitioners busy with questions surrounding civility and civic life—particularly in relation to language and its administration. The first five titles were each dedicated to a single person, namely Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, Karen Brodine, Adrian Piper, Janet McCalman, and Theresa Hak Kyung Cha.
On Saturday, March 26 from 4–6pm, Unbidden Tongues will host the event Unbidden Tongues #6: Cutting Out Reading the New York Times, a newly conceived spoken-word version of Lorraine O’Grady’s collage series Cutting Out the New York Times. The initial work consists of 26 “cut-out” or “found” newspaper poems that O’Grady made on consecutive Sundays from June to November in 1977. The new audio piece—in which the poems will be recited for the first time—will feature as a public announcement during the event at the Kunstverein, drawing on the original context of the newspaper as a site of public record to translate the written word into its oral counterpart: a broadcast of sorts.
Unbidden Tongues is edited by Isabelle Sully and, from this title onwards, will be published by Kunstverein München. To mark this collaboration, a special re-edition of the poster accompanying the 1992 exhibition by Adrian Piper at the Kunstverein will be made available.
Writers Residency
Taylor Le Melle

Wir freuen uns, Taylor Le Melle als nächste*n Teilnehmer*in der Writers Residency in der Villa Waldberta vorzustellen. Die Residency ist eine Kooperation zwischen dem Kunstverein München und dem Artist-in-Residence-Programm der Landeshauptstadt München.
Taylor Le Melle (leben und arbeiten in London und Rotterdam) schreiben, organisieren und produzieren Objekte basierend auf ihrer Ausbildung in Kunstgeschichte, Architekturtheorie und Entwicklungspsychologie. Neben ihrer schriftstellerischen Tätigkeit haben sie in letzter Zeit auch Ausstellungen kuratiert, Gruppen moderiert, Infrastrukturen aufgebaut sowie Audioaufnahmen, Diagramme und Objekte hergestellt. Meistens betrachten sie die drei letztgenannten Beispiele als „Entwurfsobjekt“. 2018 wurden sie zu einem*r der Gründungsdirektor*innen von not/nowhere, einer Künstler*innenkooperative, die sich der Förderung von Bewegtbildpraktiken und analoger Technologie widmet. Über ihr Verlagskollektiv PSS haben sie mehrere Sammlungen von Science-Fantasy und einen Gedichtband produziert und herausgegeben.

We are delighted to announce Taylor Le Melle as the next participant of the Writers Residency at the Villa Waldberta. The program is a cooperation between the Kunstverein München and the artist-in-residence program of the City of Munich.
Taylor Le Melle writes, organizes, and produces objects using their training in art history, architectural theory and developmental psychology. Alongside their writing, recent work has included curating exhibitions, facilitating groups, building infrastructures, producing audio tracks, diagrams, and objects. Mostly they consider these latter three examples to be “draft objects.” In 2018, they became one of the founding directors of not/nowhere, an artists’ workers cooperative which is dedicated to supporting moving image practices and analogue technology. Through their publishing collective, PSS, they have edited and produced several collections of science fantasy and one poetry collection.
