Paneldiscussion

to inform – to exchange – to network:

dealing with right-wing actors and actions in cultural institutions

Tuesday, November 11
7pm

With: Lisa Kern (Art Provenance Research, Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus und Kunstbau / deputy chairperson, Arbeitskreis Provenienzforschung), Matthias Müller (consultant, Mobile Beratung gegen Rechtsextremismus Berlin), Dr. Paul-Moritz (historian / deputy director, Munich Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism), and Leona Koldehoff (archivist, Kunstverein München)

What influence does the so-called “shift to the right” have on the work of cultural institutions such as museums and memorial sites in Germany? How are institutions and their representatives responding to this political and social situation, and what strategies have counseling and support organizations developed so far? What kinds of alliances could be formed between different Munich institutions to jointly address the current challenges?

The panel discussion aims to create a space for constructive and cooperative reflection on how to deal with right-wing actors and forms of action within cultural institutions, and to provide an opportunity for networking among institutions in Munich. The panelists and the moderator will inform about the current situation and discuss views on key concepts and possible strategies in thematic blocks.

The event takes place as part of the program 1945–2025: Zero Hour? and is sponsored by the Department of Culture of the City of Munich. The first two programs—workshop with Christian Fuhrmeister and the Archive Space presentation rt, Bourgeoisie, and Continuities around 1950—dealt with the reconstruction of the activities of the Kunstverein München and right-wing continuities in the social structure and curatorial program from 1945 to 1955. The panel discussion will now focus on the impact of the current political and social situation on research related to the Nazi era, the postwar period, and the culture of remembrance.

The event will be held in German.

To participate, please register by Tuesday, November 5, at info@kunstverein-muenchen.de
