Madeleine Bernstorff: Uncertainty (held in German)

Tuesday, May 25, 2021
7pm

For the event Uncertainty, Madeleine Bernstorff recounts on a moment of uncertainty: the sense of being “right in the middle and part of the pushing and shoving.” She presents a documentary film work bout the deconstruction of the border facilities at Berlin’s railway station Friedrichstraße in the summer of 1990. In its stubborn West-East collective collaboration it constitutes an intertwined, multi-perspective memory that, in its artistic and feminist conception, exposes the impact that still entails the clash of two societies, the dissolution of a social system.

Bernstorff is an author and film curator. In her research-based and often collaborative projects, she explores the cinema of the avant-gardes and resistance movements. Bernstorff is co-founder of Kino Sputnik in Berlin-Wedding and the feminist cinema group Blickpilotin. She also works for the commission of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and teaches film history at universities and art academies in Germany and abroad.
