Inventory

The Archive of the Kunstverein München comprises minutes, correspondence, photographs, publications, posters, flyers, videos, invoices, and other ephemera spanning more than 200 years of institutional history since its founding in 1823. The majority of the holdings are deposited in the Munich City Archive (Stadtarchiv München).

The materials held at the Munich City Archive can be consulted on site in the reading room. The minutes and account books of the nineteenth century have since been fully digitized by the online portal Bavarikon. While the institutional history is relatively well documented for the nineteenth century, the Archive of Kunstverein München contains only limited material for the period between 1907 and 1969. However, sources relating to this period are preserved in other local and regional archives, such as Munich City Archive, the Bavarian Main State Archive (Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv), and the Monacensia. From 1969 onward, the holdings of the Archive become increasingly dense again and, up to the present, indicate a well-preserved and continuous archival record.
