Scott King began his professional career as a graphic designer: in the 90s he worked as an art director for the style magazines ID and Sleazenation and designed record covers for pop icons such as the Pet Shop Boys, Morrissey and Suicide. The viral strategies of a parasitic aesthetic already evident in his early commercial work, still dominate his artistic work today. In the traditions of Situationist image politics and the graphic legacy of punk, King amalgamates the circulating signs of consumer culture into bastardised icons that celebrate the disease of their own origins. The Kunstverein’s exclusive edition Damageplan translates the Texan thrash metal band’s performance on 8th December 2004 at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio into the ‘cool’ cartography of a social diagramme.

Scott King (born 1969 in Goole, England) lives and works in London.
