What is a public sphere? is a new video installation at Kunstverein München by Katya Sander (Copenhagen / Berlin). The work takes as its starting point the Olympic Village and especially the small bungalows that today house students. In 1972 when the Olympic Village was designed for the Olympic Games in Munich, live television broadcast became possible, and consequently, the games were one of the first larger events being broadcasted live and globally.

The video is produced in collaboration with current inhabitants of the Olympic Village, amongst others. What is a public sphere? is the third part of the project series Dispositive Workshop, where artists are invited to realize projects in collaboration with institutions and people in Munich.
