Cathy Skene & Christoph Schäfer
No Hesitation, No Repetition, No Deviation
January 22 – February 26, 1995
Under the title No Hesitation, No Repetition, No Deviation, the two artists devoted themselves to the theme of fashion. In their approach, fashion interests them less on the level where it is designed, but on the level where it is worn, bought, combined, altered, left lying around, and resold.
“Do you have to dress yourself anew?” At the Munich Kunstverein, the two artists Cathy Skene and Christoph Schäfer offer possibilities in mass. For there, in the exhibition “No Hesitation, No Repetition, No Deviation,” stands a clothes rail hung full of exciting clothes, the kind you only know from fashion houses, chic apartments or second-hand stores. But at Munich's Hofgarten, you don't have to pay. Everyone who leaves something there is allowed to choose something nice and take it with them.
It's good to know in advance what to expect. At the opening, the visitors were somewhat taken aback. ‘Oh, now I'm wearing something so great and I'd love to take this piece with me. Must probably come back here with 'an old rag and trade it in.’” (“Kunst und aufregende Kleider. Eine heitere Annäherung an das Thema „Mode“ im Münchner Kunstverein.“ Landshuter Zeitung, February 14, 1995.)
