Park II: Masterpiece
with Luisa Fernanda Alfonso

Every action is involuntarily staged; every movement takes on a theatrical character. Everything becomes a performance in the setting of the Hofgarten.
The second iteration of the series Park with Luisa Fernanda Alfonso tests the site as exactly this stage by bringing the dramatic features of Latin American music and dances to the center. In her work Masterpiece, the dancer performs covers and adaptations of cumbias, rancheras, and mariachi songs, which are accompanied by a choir created with her own voice.
The familiarity and strangeness of these archetypical dances is explored during their enactment by the performer: through construction and deconstruction, Alfonso dismantles and transforms them into something other than tradition. Both music and movement are charged with overperformed virtuosity and sexuality, defining the space, bodies, and memory around. Alfonso dares to impose herself on the Hofgarten, experiencing its reaction. Masterpiece thus examines performance as remembrance, testimony, and resurrection.
