Reading and Presentation: Periods of Non-Productivity. A Reader as Performance and Education
October 18, 2020
With contributions by Clara Laila Abid Alsstar, Maximiliane Baumgartner, Vera Brosch, Eva Burkhardt, Luca Daberto, Jonathan Göhler, Sophia Köhler, Karolin Meunier, among others.
With Periods of Non-Productivity, a group of artists and art educators will present a reader of the same name. The publication brings together various materials from a joint critical research on conceps of productivity in mediation processes and possible forms of action of interruption and performative appropriation.
In the course of the afternoon, images and texts will be activated in the form of performative, visual, and installative interventions in front of as well as in the Kunstverein’s spaces, and by walking to a place that has disappeared from urban consciousness. The contributions are about hiding, survival kits for and with contact restriction, slackers in the archive, image as architecture and city as learning space, vulnerability as resistant potential, and bodily reactions to stressful situations.
The reader was published in 2019 within the series AKADEMIETEXTE of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. The starting point of the publication was a seminar by Karolin Meunier and Maximiliane Baumgartner on the relationship of performance as an artistic form and mediation itself as a performative act. With reference to feminist, free and action pedagogy, as well as conceptual performance art, methods of analysing normative spaces and everyday language were re-considered from a contemporary perspective and explored in process-oriented exercises.
