Die Einzelausstellung Nadir von Paul Kolling ist noch bis 21. April zu sehen. In seiner Praxis beschäftigt sich der Künstler mit aktuellen Fragen zu Ökonomie, Ökologie und der Entwicklung komplexer Infrastrukturen der letzten zwei Jahrhunderte. In seiner neuen, für die Ausstellung konzipierten Arbeit hat sich Kolling mit den sozio-politischen wie ökonomischen Beziehungen der Geschichte der Luftbildaufnahmen und der Hansa Luftbild GmbH auseinandergesetzt. Die Entwicklung der sogenannten Aerophotogrammetrie vor etwas über hundert Jahren führte zu einem Blickwechsel von der Horizontalen in die Vertikale und erforderte eine gänzlich neue Form des „Lesens“ von Bildern. Kolling zeichnet diese verschobene Perspektive auf die Umwelt und die daraus resultierende veränderte Raum- sowie Selbstwahrnehmung mittels einer raumgreifenden Intervention und Filmprojektion nach.

Paul Kolling’s solo exhibition Nadir is on view through Sunday, April 21. In his works, the artist deals with current issues of economy, ecology, and the development of complex infrastructures over the past two centuries. In his new work conceived for the exhibition, Kolling examines the complex socio-political and economic relationships in the history of aerial photography and the Hansa Luftbild GmbH. The development of so-called aerophotogrammetry a little over a hundred years ago led to a change in perspective from the horizontal to the vertical and required a completely new way of “reading” images. Kolling traces this shifted perspective on the environment and the resulting altered perception of space and self by means of an expansive intervention and film projection.

Die Serie Schaufenster wird mit der Videoarbeit phantom. menace. von Sondra Perry fortgesetzt. Die Künstlerin setzt neuste KI-Technologie ein, um die Vergangenheit als gespenstische Präsenz herauf zu beschwören und so über Identität, künstlerische Produktion und die Gegenwärtigkeit von Geschichte zu reflektieren. „Zwei afroamerikanische Männer, einer in seinen 50ern und einer in seinen späten 20ern, stehen inmitten eines überfüllten Friseursalons und geben sich die Hand“. Diese Anweisung hat Perry in die KI gegeben, zusammen mit aktuellen Ausstellungsansichten ihrer New Yorker Galerie auf der 99 Bowery, wo phantom. menace. zum ersten Mal gezeigt wurde. Als „SP’s Phantom-Zone“ eingeleitet und zu einem House-Remix getaktet, wiederholt sich die gleiche Szene einer heiteren Begegnung in unterschiedlichen Ausführungen und Kontexten.

Schaufenster ist eine Onsite- und Online-Serie, die gleichzeitig Werke in den beiden permanent zugänglichen Räumen der Institution – dem Schaufenster am Hofgarten und der Webseite – präsentiert. Der Film von Sadie Benning It Wasn’t Love ist noch bis 10. März zu sehen.

The Schaufenster series continues with the video phantom. menace. by Sondra Perry. The artist utilizes latest AI technology to conjure the past as a ghostly presence, thus reflecting upon identity, artistic production, and the immediacy of history. “Two African American men, one in his 50s and one in his late 20s, stand in the middle of a crowded barber shop and shake hands.” Perry has given this instruction to the AI, alongside images and videos from her recent show at her New York gallery on 99 Bowery, where phantom. menace. was on view for the first time. Introduced as “SP’s Phantom Zone” and paced to a house remix, the same scene of a joyous encounter replays in different versions and contexts throughout the video.

The onsite and online series Schaufenster simultaneously presents video works in the two permanently accessible spaces of the institution—the window display facing the Hofgarten as well as the website. Sadie Benning’s film It Wasn’t Love is still on view through March 10.

“If you slap the water, you hurt the heads of the fish” ist die erste Monografie, die sich dem Werk der Künstlerin Bea Schlingelhoff widmet. Die Publikation wurde anlässlich ihrer Einzelausstellung No River to Cross am Kunstverein München konzipiert und gibt anhand von zahlreichem Bild- und Textmaterial einen Überblick über fünfzehn Jahre ihrer künstlerischen Praxis. Darüber hinaus versammelt das Buch fünf neue Essays von Catherine Chevalier, Gloria Hasnay, Christina Irrgang, Helene Moll und Sadie Plant, die jeweils einen Werkkomplex Schlingelhoffs in den Blick nehmen. Jedes Exemplar ist ein Unikat und in unterschiedliche Vorsatzpapiere aus der Privatsammlung des Vaters der Künstlerin eingefasst. Die Publikation ist bei Mousse erschienen und wurde von HIT gestaltet.

“If you slap the water, you hurt the heads of the fish” is the first comprehensive monograph devoted to artist Bea Schlingelhoff. Conceived on the occasion of her solo exhibition No River to Cross at Kunstverein München, it extends far beyond this to survey fifteen years of her artistic practice through imagery and various texts. Additionally, the publication brings together five newly commissioned pieces of writing, penned by Catherine Chevalier, Gloria Hasnay, Christina Irrgang, Helene Moll, and Sadie Plant, each focusing on a specific body of Schlingelhoff’s work. Each book is one of a kind and bound in different endpapers from the private collection of the artist’s father. The book was published with Mousse and was designed by HIT.
