Ludlow 38, NYC
Initiated by Kunstverein München and the Goethe- Institut, Ludlow 38 opened in Chinatown, New York in 2008. While enthusiastic German newspaper articles somewhat grandiosely referred to the opening of the event and exhibition space as a second branch of Kunstverein München, in later contexts such as in the 2011 publication The First 3 Years of Ludlow 38, the project was described as run by different Kunstvereine in one-year cycles. After Kunstverein München conceived the program for 2008, the European Kunsthalle followed in 2009, and Künstlerhaus Stuttgart in 2010. From 2011 to 2019, Ludlow 38 was a residency program for “up-and-coming curators from Germany.”
