The point of departure for Totally Motivated—A Socio-Cultural Manoeuver was the complex and sometimes trying relationship between the international players of the art world on the one hand, and locally engaged socio-cultural initiatives on the other. As the press text goes: “The relationship is charged with clichés on both sides. While the former are accused of elitist behavior, the latter are relegated to a merely pseudo-creative practice. What happens when this boundary is crossed and one area begins to communi- cate with the other? The cultural mediation and production form Kulturladen (culture bazaar) became a field of action for artists, other contributors, and
the public in the Kunstverein.”
