Glenn Ligon
Portraits and not Portraits
MALCOM X
15 August – 07 October 2001
From August 15 to October 7, 2001, the Kunstverein presented the first comprehensive solo exhibition in Europe by the U.S.-American artist Glenn Ligon. In his works, Ligon focused on questions of identity and its construction through representations and cultural imprints as well as the intersection of categories such as race, class, and gender. Ligon spent several months in Munich to work on the exhibition. After Rodney Graham, he was the second guest of the Munich scholarship, which was established shortly before by Kunstverein München and the DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm.
