15 Jahre 1980 (15 years 1980)
September 18 – November 12, 1995
15 Jahre 1980 (15 Years 1980), the last project under the direction of Helmut Draxler, gathered materials on the conditions and social effects of pop culture, the media, and urbanism in their historical and intercultural contexts since the nineteen-eighties. Central to this project was the deliberate blending of artistic, political, and pop-cultural activities—a strategy that linked 15 Jahre 1980 with a series of exhibitions, self-published journals, and event series taking place in the same period in Berlin, Zurich, Cologne, and Munich. For example, a map of the Munich district of Haidhausen with squats since the nineteen-eighties was painted on the wall, the band FSK (Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle) was a guest, and events on current debates within the autonomous movement were held in the evenings. The intention was for the space of the institution to be used for discussions, networking, and politicization beyond its function of showing art.
