Die Utopie des Designs
11 March – 24 April 1994
The exhibition Die Utopie des Designs (The Utopia of Design) brought together furniture, models, interior designs, and blueprints from the nineteen-sixties and seventies that, as the exhibition press release notes, were no longer interested in designing “the individual object ... [but rather] the entire living world.” The historical conditions that made these utopian productions possible as well as the relationships that emerged from them were illuminated in the exhibition. The design processes set
in motion by the 1972 Munich Olympics emerged as a crystallization point. Die Utopie des Design was devel- oped by Helmut Draxler in collaboration with a group of students.
