“The exhibition community Frei Münchner und Deutsche Künstlerschaft e.V. (FMDK), of which SPUR was also a member, applied for exhibition opportunities within the ‘Great Art Exhibition’ at the Haus der Kunst in Munich in 1960 and 1961. However, the exhibition management refused the participation of the FMDK. Instead, the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture supported an exhibition at the Munich Art Association with generous subsidies. (...) In this way, the exhibition ‘Engaged Art’ from January 13 to February 28, 1961 was made possible. This presentation was the first joint exhibition of this exhibition community. During the presentation at the Kunstverein, the group SPUR distributed the January Manifesto with political agitations. Afterwards, representatives of FMDK were advised to refrain from distributing writings of this kind in the next exhibition, which was to be held at the Haus der Kunst. In its documentation, the SPUR group referred to this exhibition as the '4th experimental collective work'.” (Ilonka Czerny: Die Gruppe Spur (1957-1965). Vienna 2008, p. 192f.
