Künstler unserer Zeit
(“Artists of our time”)
From July 10, 1954
For the ‘Große Kunstausstellung’ in the Haus der Kunst, a number of important painters had not sent in pictures. To give them the opportunity to exhibit in Munich, the Kunstverein showed them under the title Künstler unserer Zeit. Among others, Willi Baumeister, Ernst Geitlinger, Werner Gilles, Erich Glette, Hans Gött, HAP Grieshaber, Alfred Kubin, Hans Reinhold Lichtenberger, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, Emil Nolde, Franz Reinhardt, Marta Sappel, Will Sohl, Emil van Hauth, Ernst Weier and Fritz Winter were represented.
“I would like to recommend the exhibition at the Kunstverein to all those who do not find access to non-objective painting. Maybe they will at least come to say: it already has something. I could imagine hanging such paintings, as the Japanese do, in picture niches, alternating when you just feel abstract - on such a bright July day, but it could also be foggy November.” (Walter Foitzick in the Abendzeitung of July 15, 1954)
