The annual Jahresgaben dates back to the founding of Kunstverein München in 1823, when members received a print each year as part of their membership. Over time, Jahresgaben developed into a group exhibition of work by Munich-based artists and graduates of the Munich Academy. It’s the only moment when the Kunstverein sells artwork and, while the exhibition is open to the public, only our members can purchase the works.

This year, Kunstverein München invited more than 80 artists to exhibit their work, with a special scenography by Ivo Rick in the 1. OG. Additionally, videos by the Munich artists Pavle and Anuk Jovović, Melina Hennicker and Michael Schmidt, Monika Huber, Kalas Liebfried, Guida Miranda, Verena Seibt and Thomas Splett, Laurel Severin, Janina Totzauer, Susanne Wagner, Jakob Weiß, and Mathias R. Zausinger will be screened daily in the Kino. And the stairs and mezzanine will be lined with posters from our archive signed by the artists, a large selection of Editions produced by the Kunstverein, and the remainder of the personal art collection of art historian and Kunstverein board member Martina Fuchs (1962–2016), which she donated to support the Martina Fuchs Archive of Kunstverein München.

Jahresgaben is an important moment for the Kunstverein, to bring the local contemporary art scene together in Munich, to see and discuss their work, and for our members to support that scene, while also benefitting from the chance to purchase artworks at special prices. As always, 50% of each sale directly supports the artist, 45% supports the Kunstverein, and the remaining 5% goes towards social insurance for artists.
