Film screening and discussion with M-Power, Berlin and METROMOD, LMU Munich
30 November 2018, 6pm
(Kino)
M-Power has made it its goal to embolden young women with experiences of displacement and migration, and to offer them spaces to discover new interests and develop their potential. Through the medium of film, the perspectives and narratives of young women are made visible. Girls are given the opportunity to explore and exploit their own artistic capabilities and self-confidently arrive at transcultural forms of artistic expression. Together with mentors and in conjunction with the 'Experimental Film /Media Art' class at the Berlin University of the Arts, the M-Power girls produce short films and develop skills ranging from screenplay writing to postproduction.
Five short films by M-Power will be shown, which each thematize urban life from a migrant perspective. Afterwards, the films, approaches, processes, and experiences will be discussed together with Mervete Bobaj, project manager of M-Power, and four young M-Power filmmakers.
This event is part of the international conference Arrival Cities: Migrating Artists and New Metropolitan Topographies. The conference is organised by the ERC research project METROMOD - Relocating Modernism. Global Metropolises, Modern Art and Exile at the LMU Munich.
