Behind the Green Door
Monday 23 November 2015
7.00pm to 9.00pm
Performance begins at 7.30pm
Feminist Land Art Retreat was initiated in 2010 with an advertisement. In the subsequent years since, it has produced promotional material for public circulation, and more recently exhibitions and performance.
Feminist Land Art Retreat wears a camouflage of dominant graphic visual forms and conventions, mimicking and twisting them in order to destabilise their established roles.
Feminist Land Art Retreat takes on different guises with each appearance. Rather than re-performing the familiar utopian construction of a retreat itself - a space away from the worries of modern life - Feminist Land Art Retreat, as a proposition, attempts to open up potential within our immediate surroundings both physically and mentally. It elicits a response from each who encounters its activities, the term itself acting as a mirror for expectation.
Feminist Land Art Retreat, as an actor of its own accord, behaves as a placeholder or stand in, and speaks through the act of observing and borrowing established codes and positions. Due to the exclusion of women from so much of historical discourse, Feminist Land Art Retreat attempts to reconstruct and montage a past and potential future in a search for continuity, without offering a responsible subject or solution.
Feminist Land Art Retreat uses humour to disarm in an attempt to reveal familial visual tropes of radicality, and disrupt assumptions of what Feminism looks like. Because we believe it should never be taken for granted.
Organised by Kunstverein München’s curator Saim Demircan. Past public events Behind the Green Door have involved artists Stephan Dillemuth, Dan Mitchell, John Russell, Head Gallery, and Student Art Collective.
This event is supported by the Embassy of Canada. In co-operation with lothringer13_florida, a municipal artist-run space in Munich
